Xeriscape & Water Conservation Conference 2012

February 23rd and 24th; and for the Expothe 25th and 26th2012 in Alburenque

The Water Conservation and Xeriscape Conference and EXPOends in April we start planning for the next conference and we have been planning!  We begin by talking about the coming year’s potential themes, who the speakers might be, and what we heard from conference goers the previous year.  Those discussions and debates really energize us and we are thrilled about this year’s conference!   We are also really excited about this year’s theme for the Conference, Collaborations for New Solutions.  The speakers we have lined up for the coming year were chosen to provide lively talks and discussion; the group is varied and includes conservation advocates, water professionals and other interesting presenters.

The theme is especially appropriate this year because it mirrors our own greater collaborations at the Xeriscape Council of New Mexico.  It has been a constant reminder for us since last March because we have had to step up our own collaboration with each other in ways that we never expected.  This year at the Council we were faced with a very different planning effort than we were used to because our friend and executive director for the last 10 years told us he was going to have to leave the Council, six months later Scott Varner had passed on.  While we were very saddened by the news, the silver lining was that Scott motivated us to be better planners and rise to the challenge.  We have!

Please set the dates for next year’s Conference and Expo, the date for the Water Conservation and Xeriscape Conference is February 23rd and 24th; and for the Expothe 25th and 26th2012.  We are holding the conference at the Crown Plaza Albuquerque (formally the Albuquerque Hilton) and the EXPO at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds; we believe the venues will again be an excellent choice.  As the planning continues we will stay in touch and keep you informed of the events, the speakers and other details.

Thanks and see you in February!
